Inlinegames - preparations: Fisheye, Pringels und Party Report about Inlinegames 2008 by "Sk8tebrother" Alex
sorry - not translated yet - video coming soon ...
For me the whole adventure started on Thursday, July 31. , having had very little sleep because my girlfriend had just returned from her holiday and we did want to spend some time together before I set off by train to Fulda to meet Andy there. My suitcase was packed and I was looking forward to a great weekend.
At Lunch time I arrived at Andy's and the first thing we did was to collect all necessary filming gear. We had 2 cams (Panasonic DVX100 und Canon XM2), superb tripods, micros, wide angle lenses and lights for the planned interviews; everything on loan from offenen Kanal. Just superb gear! The next stop with scatterbrain Andy was Kaufland, where Andy decided to take a shopping trolley for a tub of Pringles (the packet of Pringles will make sense later) and a tub of cappucino. The next stop was for tapes for the cams. (It is hard to understand why tapes for camcorders are not stored in the aisle where one would expect them to be but near the entrance of the shop, where we should have spotted them instantly. It was quite funny, though.)
What do you do when you have a nice wide angle lens but you want an nice fish eye lens??? The answer is to remember a little handy work. You open the wide angle lense carefully, take the lenses out and start a 'mix-n-match' using other lenses as well until you find the optimal combination. And this little handywork of fisheye lense by no means had to hide behind 1000Euro Century Fisheye lenses. And when filming with it, the angle of our little handy work was so wide that you had to be careful not to crash into objects because you had to be extremely close to them. The Question was, how would we tie lose lenses to our camcorders? This is the part where the tub of Pringles comes in. Last year we discovered that the diameter of the wide angle lense is exactly that of a Pringles tub, so we made use of that. The smallest lense we placed with a network cable to the camcorder and the medium size lense we stuck somehow into the middle between both lenses. The finished work was then tied with elastic band to the camcorder. (It's a pity that we didn't take a picture of our finished handy work, but both, Andy and I completely forgot about it! ) A fish eye lens held together looks absolutely great! And it is amazing that during the Inline Games only 2 people noticed our handy work! Once we finished, we checked the lights for the interview and then it was time to roll.
After the skate session Andy thought it was a brilliant idea to empty his car from all sorts of rubbish. I tell you it was not a good thing! When we finished we went for a kebab across the road and walked in 10 meter distance past the bin where Andy had emptied his rubbish into. The stench from that bin was incredible and that at a distance of 10 meters!
Night came and morning, too ... first day.
On Friday we set off for the Inline Games at Hannover. On arrival we found a totally well organized Dete (organizer )which was quite a contrast to last year. Our rooms were booked, our staff passes were ready, so were we and everything was fine. As on Friday there was not too much going on, so we had plenty of time to relax and skate a little in the evening. Before we set off to skate we put our beer into the wash basin to cool it for later consumption. (did I mention the joy of *** - star hotels before? Especially when you can go everywhere on skates? )
At about midnight we met up with the just arrived ignition team and Jo-Jo Jacobi, so we all returned to town for a little bit of partying. It was about 2 am when we decided to leave the really great party. By then Dominik Wagner was totally pissed and could not stand up (a few hours later he was supposed to skate to qualify for the Europameisterschaft )and all had a great time. It was 5 am by the time we manage to get to bed so the night was relatively short, considering that the camera team (we) had to be up very early.
The morning came.
